Hello world, I am a new self-taught artist looking to share my learning journey. Here I will share my processes, trials-and-errors, and lessons learned.
I was told I grew up in a long line of artists. I never doubted this, as I used to watch my uncle paint and another relative carve wooden statues. However, my own artistic journey stalled after I learned basic pencil work and the color wheel in high school. I feel like my art and composition never evolved beyond that point.
Today, I find myself disappointed with where my art stands. It lacks the depth and composition I aspire to achieve, falling short of the standards I set for myself. So, I will be sharing that journey of discovery and knowledge and reflecting along the way. This journey of artistic growth and self-reflection is one I am eager to embark on, and I hope to inspire others through my experiences.
I have many hobbies, with painting being first and foremost! I also enjoy traveling, taking pictures, and pretending that I will paint the photos I just took. Additionally, I love decorating my home, buying little trinkets, collecting oddly shaped rocks, and hanging postcards on the wall. I consider myself a creative person, but I hesitate to label myself as anything beyond that.
I paint, but I don’t feel confident enough to call myself a painter. I draw, sketch, and color, but I wouldn’t call myself an artist. This hesitation stems from a sense of arrested development in my artistic journey. This is where I want to challenge myself to grow and to understand why I feel like this about my artistic self. I hope you enjoy the journey along with me.
